ECO-City: Urban Development towards Appropriate Structures for Sustainable Transport

Prototypes” for sustainable neighborhoods are to be developed in various new housing developments based on specific example neighborhoods.

This is an international project with partners from nine European countries under Austrian leadership, which is funded by the EU as part of the 5th Research Framework Program.

In this project, the IAW has the task of investigating the economic and social aspects of such a development and providing advice and support for the development of the German “model settlement”. The project builds on the experience gained by the IAW in the period 1996-1999 with the accompanying research in Tübingen Südstadt.
