Investments in mechanical engineering in the Stuttgart Region - Supplementary brief study on the Stuttgart Region 2015 structural report

Based on the results of the Stuttgart Region 2015 structural report, which examined investment activity in the Stuttgart Region, this brief study focuses on investment activity in the local mechanical and plant engineering sector. The background to this is the below-average investment behavior of the mechanical engineering sector, both in a sector and regional comparison, which was observed until 2013.

On the basis of statistical data (investment survey by the statistical offices) and guided interviews with regional industry experts, the study examines the questions of (1) how investment activity in the mechanical engineering sector in the region has developed in quantitative terms up to 2015, (2) what regional characteristics and correlations exist with regard to the investment behavior of the local mechanical engineering sector and (3) what current obstacles and future challenges exist for regional investment activity.
