Apprenticeship potential analysis in the occupational field of home economics in the Stuttgart region
The study carried out by the IAW between September and November 2006 looked at the potential for creating additional training places in the vocational field of home economics in the Stuttgart region. It was investigated whether and in which areas such potential exists and how it can be activated if necessary. Against the background of regional, sectoral and training-specific factors, the factors of training content, training companies and the skills of trainees in particular were examined as decisive determinants of the training process, training quality and training place potential in the context of literature and data analyses as well as in 14 personal guided interviews with experts from institutions and companies.
Important results of the study are, for example, that despite demand for domestic services remaining at least the same, the number of training places has fallen continuously in recent years. In particular, the suitability and motivation of trainees is viewed negatively by many experts. This is partly attributed to the fact that the image of training and the profession as a whole is very negative and that improving this image could be an important step towards creating new training places.
