The 7th Bundesbank-IAW-Lecture on European Economic Integration in Tübingen

The situation is quite different with internal migration in the EU, where little has changed in recent decades. The majority of the population still lives within the borders of their own region of birth. However, this is also true for the USA, although to a much lesser extent than for the EU. According to Thierry Mayer, political integration has increased considerably. He drew on the voting behaviour of EU member states at the United Nations, which has become increasingly coherent. Apparently, the member states are increasingly succeeding in coordinating on common positions.
However, the discussion also highlighted the problems and setbacks in the integration process, for example the lack of trust in the institutions, the debt crisis and the increasingly autocratic tendencies in some Eastern European countries.
