Labour market transitions of young parents – drivers and institutional conditions with special reference to family form
The aim of this research project, conducted on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs, is an empirical analysis of the socio-economic and labour market situation of young parents, with a particular emphasis on the transitions between employment states. The objects of analysis, in particular, are the degree of labour market integration of young parents, transitions within and between education and employment, the income and poverty situation, social benefit receipt, participation in society and subjective assessments of the socio-economic situation of those affected.
The project will give an almost complete description of the importance of the group of young parents in society, their labour market situation and their individual perspectives. A particular focus will be on issues that have not been previously analysed in depth. This involves, for example, the importance of age at birth of first child for career trajectories, the household context and the relation to the social security system, especially concerning basic social assistance.
