Current and past developments of social mobility in the light of institutional and structural framework conditions
Social mobility is of great importance for the analysis of poverty and wealth: the less open a society is in terms of occupying social and economic positions, the more inequality is a social problem. This project builds on existing studies on social mobility in Germany by analyzing conditions and causes of social mobility, such as demographic change, educational expansion and economic structural change. With regard to educational transitions, the causality of the parental influence will be investigated. The study is based on the National Education Panel Study (NEPS) and the TwinLife study. The study will also summarize existing scientific evidence in meta-studies.
